Meet our featured wish kid for Wish Night!

Ruby has loved books for as long as she can remember. Every night before bed, 4-year-old Ruby chooses a couple books, and together her family reads them as she snuggles in for bedtime.

When Ruby was a baby, she seemed to always be in pain. After lengthy tests, doctors confirmed her bile ducts weren’t working correctly. Her liver was failing and she needed a liver transplant. With her condition came lengthy hospital stays. While doctors and nurses cared for her within the walls of the hospital, she found reprieve in the pages of books. Reading was a happy distraction while she waited for a gift, a second chance at life.

When her family found out Ruby qualified for a wish, they knew exactly what would bring Ruby joy – and also hope to others. Ruby wished to write a children’s book to help encourage and inspire children waiting for a transplant. The main character was brave, kind and strong – it was Ruby. With long brown locks of curly brown hair, big brown eyes and a bright smile, Ruby’s story teaches us to be brave.
